Rebecca Shao holding a framed print on a Brooklyn street

A year ago, I quit my corporate tech job to finally pursue art.
I created this cheeky series of 🖕 paintings over the span of 5
years while working there, painting whenever I could after long
days of sales calls and staring at computer screens.

I didn't realize it then, but creating these paintings was my own
quiet rebellion against sleepwalking into a future that no
longer felt like mine.
Completing each piece gave me a little
more courage to let go and set myself free.

It took me 30 years to finally admit that I want to be an artist.
I’m terrified and have no idea what I’m doing, but I will always
look to these paintings to remind myself how lucky🍒 I am to be
alive, and that the only option is to risk it all to do what I truly
love.
You only go around once!

If you’re going through something similar, I hope my work sets
you free too, and gives you the strength and inner knowing to help you find your way back home to yourself 🪐 :)
